Weather Issues

Head to high school for indoor activities: pull from a pile of “back-up activities”, dodgeball, kickball, etc.

Week One

Monday, June 6th – Ice Breakers

  • Introduction of myself
  • Ask what students hope to learn this summer
  • 2 Truth 1 lie
  • Commonalities Game
  • Divide the kids into groups of 3
  • The goal is for the triad to identify as many things that they have in common within one minute.
  • For example, we all wear glasses. That’s one thing.
  • With each thing in common, they all yell together the number of items they have in common.
  • “We all wear shoes, one!” “We all like in Missouri, two!”
  • Switch triads and play again.  Each round gets more difficult with critical thinking.

  • Match things people have done/ want to do.
  • Divide teams/ play kickball

Wednesday, July 13th – Team Building Activities

  • Team: “A group of people working together to achieve a common goal.”
  • Silent games to work on non verbal communication
  • Without speaking, ask the group to line up alphabetically by first name. Variations: birthday, shoe size, grade, height, hand size.

  • Circle of Life
  • Nature Walk
  • Ask students to record their observations of the ecosystem surrounding their school. Organize students into five groups -- the sound group, the plant group, the animal group, the mineral group, and the smell group. Each group will gather evidence (material, drawings, or descriptions) appropriate to the group's theme.
